The Gichathaini Factory produces nearly 700 metric tons of cherry annually, amassed from over 900 active producers across 450 hectares of farmland. The farms are situated at 1,700-1,800masl and benefit from deep red volcanic soil rich in organic matter.

This coffee was washed with water from the Ragati River, undergoing multiple density and floatation tests to sort the pulped coffee beans. For example, in the final washing stage, after the beans have been fermented overnight, the beans spill out into a sloping channel. They are pushed repeatedly back to the top of the channel, and the gentle current quickly pulls lighter beans to the bottom while denser beans take their time coming down.

Gichathaini Factory is located in the Mathira District of Nyeri County, a little hill where indigenous Kikuyu warriors resisted British influence in 1902. Gichathaini is a local kikuyu name derived from the muchathai medicinal plant commonly found in the area.

The estate is part of the Gikanda Farmers Cooperative Society (FCS), which also includes Ndaroini and Kangocho as members. An elected representative from Gichathaini Factory sits on the Gikanda FCS management committee, which makes major decisions for the estate and the cooperative.
